The mission of the CTHPCO is to advance the state of palliative care in the state of Connecticut. We work to expand the availability of accessible palliative care and hospice across the state through advocacy, collaboration with policymakers, and the provision of statewide educational efforts.
Advocacy: The CTHPCO will advocate for seriously ill patients, terminally ill patient, and their caregivers by helping to locate and access existing resources. We will identify gaps in resources and advocate to fill these gaps. We also advocate for the rights and concerns of underserved populations and people with disabilities.
Policy: The CTHPCO will work for policies which will improve the quality of life of the seriously and terminally ill through the improvement of existing legislation whilst supporting beneficial new legislation.
Collaboration: The CTHPCO will leverage existing relationships with stakeholders within the state and community with similar goals to create synergy to meet the mission and reach our vision for hospice and palliative care in the State of Connecticut.
Research: CTHPCO will coach with universities and research collaboratives to contribute to the base of knowledge in the area of palliative care, hospice, and end-of-life.
Education: The CTHPCO will avail itself to universities and colleges within the state to teach and provide education to interdisciplinary students and faculty regarding end-of-life care. The CTHPCO will also engage community groups to provide information and education regarding hospice and palliative care services and resources. The CTHPCO in collaboration with statewide stakeholders will organize and promote hospice/palliative care/end-of-life symposiums and conferences available to interdisciplinary professionals across the state with hospice and palliative care subject matter.
VISION STATEMENT
The CTHPCO envisions an environment where patients and their families are supported through the trajectory of serious illness, the dying process and bereavement and have access to excellent palliative clinicians and programs. Our hope is to normalize the dying process so that our society embraces death as a normal and our final developmental stage.
